Once again, Andruw Jones is in left against the left-hander, Brian Matutsz. Girardi reiterated that Gardner will play some against lefties, but thus far Gardner has sat against the two lefties the Yankees have faced.

In his career, Gardner is a career .243 hitter against lefties vs. .273 against righties. However, Garnder's on-base, career-wise, is basically the same as he gotten on base at a .354 clip against righties as opposed to .351 against lefties.

So if Gardner's job is basically is got get on base and play good defense to utilize his unique skill, his speed, then does it make sense to have him on the bench so much when lefties are one the mound?
