. . . to replace Brett Gardner, on the 15-day DL with a right elbow strain. Joe Girardi said that until Gardner returns, the left-field job will be divided between Raul Ibanez against right-handed starters and Andruw Jones against lefties. With RHP Clay Buchholz going today for the Red Sox, it's Ibanez' turn to start.

Girardi said right now he is comfortable enough with the Ibanez-Jones platoon that he may continue to carry 13 pitchers -- RHP Cody Eppley was added to the roster Thursday -- through the series with the Texas Rangers next week, or even beyond.

"My mood could change in a day or two,” Girardi said. “(But) when I talked to Brian (Cashman), my thought was that we needed a 13th pitcher more than another outfielder.”
