Phil Hughes just completed his worst outing of the season, leaving after 2-2/3 innings in which he allowed five hits, one of the a 440-foot homer to Adrian Beltre, and so far, four runs. He also hit two batters. the second a fastball that grazed Beltre's shirt, prompting Joe Girardi to pull him for Clay Rapada, who inherits the bases loaded and two out in the third. With the Yankees losing Michael Pineda for the season to shoulder surgery and Andy Pettitte "not quite there yet,'' according to Brian Cashman, a witness to Pettitte's outing for AA Trenton, this was hardly the night for Hughes to fall on his face. But he did. Yanks trailing 4-0 after three.
