A strong outing by CC Sabathia secured the rubber game of a three-game series against Detroit as the Yankees bested the Tigers 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.

CC'S BEST START: Sabathia pitched his best game of the season, throwing eight innings of two-run ball. From the start, Sabathia had control of his pitches and was able to navigate Detroit's lineup with relative ease, aside from a home run by Prince Fielder and an RBI double by Miguel Cabrera. He gave up just four hits and struck out eight.

With the Yankees' rotation in shambles, the team needs its ace to carry it, and he's been able to do that lately as he has won each of his past three starts. Sabathia is 3-0 with a 4.58 ERA on the season and seems to be finding his groove after struggling to start the year.

GRANDY ON PACE: Granderson hit his eighth home run on Saturday and is on pace to surpass last year's total of 41. The lefty is continuing to show that power stroke and has been the team's most consistent power threat over the past two seasons. His two RBIs were key in Sunday's game and he now has 16 on the year, second-most on the Yankees.

LEAVING MEN ON: The Yankees left 15 men on base and went just 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position, allowing Detroit to hang in the game until late. All three hits were infield singles, meaning the Yankees had some luck on their side. The Yankees did a great job of getting on base, they just have to do a better job of executing.

SWISHER LEAVES: Right fielder Nick Swisher left the game in the third inning because of tightness in his left hamstring and will undergo an MRI. Swisher leads the Yankees with 23 RBIs and was 0-for-1 with a walk in the game. His replacement, Andruw Jones, hit a homer.

UP NEXT: The Yankees host Baltimore in the first game of a three-game series on Monday as Hiroki Kuroda (1-3, 4.38 ERA) faces Jason Hammel (3-0, 1.73). First pitch at 7:05 p.m.
