Brett Gardner is scheduled to start in left field for Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre on Tuesday night, in one half of a doubleheader against the Columbus Clippers.

"He’s just playing one game today in left field, and then we’ll make an evaluation after tonight," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. When asked if Gardner could possibly be back with the Yankees for Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Girardi said, "I doubt it, but we’ll see. We’ll see how he feels as he goes through it."

Gardner has been on the disabled list since April 18 with a right elbow injury. He was supposed to play for Scranton-Wilkes Barre on Monday night, but the game was rained out.

* As for Eric Chavez, who is on the seven-day concussion disabled list, Girardi said, "He went and saw the doctor. I did not find out what the doctor said (yet). I believe he’s gonna have to take an impact test -- that’s protocol for this type of injury. And if he passes the impact test he’ll be ready to go."

Chavez suffered the injury last Wednesday while diving for a line drive off the bat of the Baltimore Orioles' J.J. Hardy.
