Let's get out of the way at the start: Derek Jeter has been great. You could make a pretty good case that he is the team's MVP so far.
But entering last night, he had hit just .256 over his last 21 games and his on-base was just .302 during that span. Jeter still began last night at .336 and .382, which, of course, is very good.
Still, where will Jeter's average end up by the end of this season? Before the year, I had Jeter hitting .287. With the way he has started, you have to think he is going to outperform that, but by how much? Will he hit .300, .310, .315? More? Less?
If you go by Brian Cashman's "market correction" theory that Cashman applied to the Yankees hitting better with RISP, then Jeter's average is probably on the way down -- just how far, who knows?
It has been an amazing renaissance for Jeter from a year ago when he looked done. Now, he is an excellent player again, but will he be able to maintain it?
UP NOW: Rob Parker has all the news and views from Detroit.
ON DECK: A What2Watch4 around noon as we get you ready for this 7 p.m. game in Detroit. Hiroki Kuroda is on the mound for the Yanks.

Mo is now 17 for 17 in save opportunities. His best save start was 2008 when he was 28-for-28.

Lots of people want to Blame the Binder for leaving CC in. Fair point. I didn't first guess, but a fair point for those who did.
