With his 10th home run of the season, Mark Teixeira has reached double-digits in each of his first 10 major league seasons. Just four other players in the majors have done that in their initial decade.

They are Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols, Adam Dunn and Carlos Lee.

Here are some other notes:

* The Yankees had only two hits in the first seven innings -- the home run by Teixeira in the second and Robinson Cano's in the fourth.

* The Yankees are in second, which is the highest they have been since they were in first on April 24th. The Rays fell into third place for the first time since the end of the day on April 22.

* The Yankees (31-24) are seven games over .500. They have won five of their last six. The Yankees were 31-24 at this time last year, as well.

* To close, Rafael Soriano is now 8-for-8 as the closer. Joe Girardi reiterated before the game that Soriano is the closer for good this year, while David Robertson is headed back to the eighth inning.
