Noah K. Murray/The Star-Ledger/US PresswireIf this is one of your favorite Subway Series moments, you're probably not a Mets fan.According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Monday marked the first time that the Yankees (Sabathia) and Mets (Dickey) both produced complete-game victories with 10-or-more strikeouts on the same day; it was also the first time since 1900 that any two New York major league teams did so on the same day.
That said, what are your favorite Subway Series memories?
For most Yankees fans, it probably doesn’t get any better than the 2000 World Series -- specifically Derek Jeter taking Al Leiter deep in the sixth inning of Game 5.
But then there are others:
June 12, 2009: The Yankees are left for dead. Alex Rodriguez pops one up toward second. And then, the impossible happens. Luis Castillo drops the ball, and the Yankees win in walk-off fashion.
July 8, 2000: The Yankees sweep the Mets in the rivalry’s first-ever two-stadium, day-night doubleheader. Dwight Gooden stars in his return to Queens as a Yankee, throwing five shutout innings.
June 14, 2009: The Yankees clobber Johan Santana, tagging him for nine runs in three innings, and roll to a 15-0 romp at the Stadium.
June 28, 2009: Mariano Rivera's 500th career save caps off a sweep in Queens. In that game, Rivera also picks up his first career RBI with a bases-loaded walk against Francisco Rodriguez.
May 20, 2007: Tyler Clippard, now the closer for the Nationals, gives up a run in six innings and gets his first-ever hit in his MLB debut.
Question of the day: What is your favorite Subway Series memory?
Up now: A-Rod is his own worst critic, as Andrew Marchand writes in his column following the Yanks' 10-5 loss to Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon. I wrote about Phil Hughes' dud of a start, and the new Stadium-record nine homers that were hit.
On deck: ESPN Stats & Information’s Katie Sharp will have her Yankeemetrics blog up at 10:30 a.m. ET. Marchand will have a Subway Series edition of Bombers Beat, as well as an interesting off-day column on the crosstown rivalry. Make sure to check it all out, and as always, thanks for reading.
