CC Sabathia has never thrown a knuckleball, nor has he ever hit one.

That’ll change on Sunday night, however, when Sabathia takes on R.A. Dickey in the marquee pitching matchup of Part II of the Subway Series at Citi Field.

“I’m sure his knuckleball is a little better than my cousin’s WhiffleBall in the backyard,” Sabathia joked. “We’ll see.”

In his last start on Monday, Sabathia threw a complete game, giving up two runs while striking out 10. That same night, Dickey also threw a complete game -- giving up just one hit while fanning 13.

Sabathia, however, said he won’t be any extra motivated to pitch in this particular start.

Still, he has been paying attention to Dickey.

“It’s kind of hard not to, if you turn on the TV or turn on SportsCenter. He’s been having a great year. Hopefully he can stay healthy and I’m excited for him, but I’m trying to win a game tomorrow,” Sabathia said.

Sabathia couldn’t fathom how Dickey has transformed from a conventional pitcher into a knuckleballing ace.

“It’s just a tribute to him and how tough he is and what he had to endure to come back and be a knuckleballer in the big leagues,” he said.
