IT'S NEVER TO LATE
Robinson Cano was the hero in Sunday night's 6-5 win, with a go-ahead, eighth-inning solo home run that broke a 5-5 tie. It was the second go-ahead homer in the eight inning or later by a Yankee against the Mets this year (Russell Martin had one on June 10).

In the first 15 seasons of the Subway Series combined, the Yankees hit just two go-ahead homers in the eighth inning or later -- Jorge Posada in 1999 and Robin Ventura in 2002.

CC Sabathia battled all night and got the early hook, departing after just 5⅔ innings with five runs (one earned) allowed and a season-low three strikeouts. He snapped his streak of 14 starts to begin the season with at least six innings pitched and four strikeouts, which was tied with Mike Mussina in 2006 for the longest by a Yankee in the Live Ball Era.

BRONX BOMBER YANKEEMETRIC OF SERIES
On Saturday the Yankees notched their MLB-leading 23rd comeback win with a 4-3 victory over the Mets. Raul Ibanez tied the game with a three-run homer and Eric Chavez hit a solo shot, both in the seventh inning, to erase a 3-0 deficit.

With that blast, Ibanez became the first Yankee 40-year-old to homer against the Mets.

Jon Rauch allowed Chavez's go-ahead home run, the second time this season he has allowed a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning or later against the Yankees. No other Mets pitcher in their entire career has allowed more than one such homer vs the Yankees.

Ivan Nova (3 ER, 5⅔ IP) didn't get a decision in the game and still remains unbeaten in his last 16 road starts. That is the third-longest streak of road starts without a loss in the Live Ball Era by a Yankee, behind Allie Reyonlds (25, 1948-48) and Monte Pearson (21, 1936-37).

FIRST IS WORST
The Yankees dropped the opener of the Subway Series at Citi Field, 6-4, thanks to a horrible start during which the Mets scored five runs in the first inning. It was the first time the Mets had scored five first-inning runs against the Yankees.

Andy Pettitte got rocked in that first frame, allowing at least five runs in the first inning for just the third time in his career. He also did it Aug. 21, 1995, at Oakland and Sept. 4, 2001, at Toronto.

The big blow was a three-run shot by Ike Davis off Pettitte to make it 5-0. The last Yankees starter to give up a three-run homer to a Met was Aaron Small, who surrendered one to Carlos Delgado in a 4-3 loss at Shea Stadium in 2006.

This was the second straight night the Yankees hit at least three homers and lost, a feat the team had accomplished just three times previously in the past 90 seasons: in 1983, 1987 and 1990.

RIDICULOUS YANKEEMETRIC OF SERIES
In Saturday's win, Boone Logan, David Robertson and Rafael Soriano each allowed no runs and had two or more strikeouts in an inning or less.

This was just the third game in which three Yankees relievers each pitched no more than one inning and allowed zero runs with at least two strikeouts. It also happened July 21, 2007, against the Rays and Sept. 19, 2008, against the Orioles.
