Alex Rodriguez is not in the lineup tonight, but Joe Girardi says there is nothing wrong with him. With the Yankees in the midst of playing 13 in a row, Rodriguez is off. Girardi said he will do it again over the next two weeks.

"As a manager, you have to try and keep these guys healthy," Girardi said about his soon-to-be 37-year-old third baseman. "They are not 25 anymore. We might want to view them as 25. But the reality of this is they are not 25. I'm just trying to stay ahead of it. He'll probably get another day off in this long stretch of games, too."

A-Rod is hitting .264 with 12 homers and 33 RBIs. His slugging percentage is .425.

It is not just A-Rod who will being getting some time off, Girardi said. Joe will try to find Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, etc. a day off or DH days in the near future.
  • In that same vain, Curtis Granderson is not starting in center for the first time all season. He is at DH. Dwayne Wise is in center. Granderson had been on the lineup card in every one of the first 71 games this season.
  • Russell Martin (stiff back) is doing better, but won't start until Tuesday or Wednesday. Girardi will try to avoid using him if he can.
