The Yankees still have one game to play here against the Rays, but the wheels are already turning in preparation for this weekend's four-game series against the Red Sox. Among the facts we were able to glean from this morning's session with Joe Girardi:
-- The Yankees will stay on rotation for the four games, meaning Hiroki Kuroda will open the series Friday night, Freddy Garcia and Phil Hughes will pitch the day/night doubleheader on Saturday and Ivan Nova will close the show on Sunday night. Girardi said he is leaning towards Garcia in the first game (13:35 p.m.) and Hughes in the nightcap (7:15 p.m.), but that has yet to be finalized. The Red Sox are expected to throw Josh Beckett, Franklin Morales, Felix Doubront and Jon Lester, in that order.
-- Under the new CBA, teams are allowed to add a player for a doubleheader, and from what Girardi hinted, it sounds like Cory Wade, optioned to AAA Scranton on Monday, will rejoin the team for the day.
--Girardi said he expects all of his regulars to play all four games. "You might see a guy DH and play the field one game, that sort of thing,'' Girardi said. "But I expect them all to be ready.''
