According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Yankees became the first visiting team to score two or more runs in the first inning in every game of a four-game series at Fenway Park.
THREE OUT OF FOUR AIN'T BAD
With their 7-3 win Sunday, the Yankees head into the All-Star break with baseball's best record (52-33).
Derek Jeter recorded his 48th career multihit game at Fenway Park, tying Babe Ruth for the third-most such games by a Yankee at the ballpark. Jeter's 151 hits at Fenway are the fifth-most all time by a Yankee there.
The Yankees extended their streak of scoring at least four runs against Boston to 12 games, matching the second-longest such streak in the live ball era.
They struck out 15 Red Sox batters, their fifth 15-K game this season, which is the most such games in a Yankee season over the last 90 years.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
You never know what’s going to happen in a Yankees-Red Sox game, and that was true on Friday in the 10-8 Yankee win. Both teams scored five runs in the first inning, the first time that's been done in the history of the rivalry, according to Elias.
The Yankees scored 10 runs without a homer, marking the first time they scored double-digit runs against the Red Sox without a long ball since Aug. 9, 1985.
Mark Teixeira had a triple and also stole a base, becoming the first Yankees first baseman with that combo in the same game since Irv Noren in 1952.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
On Saturday, the Yankees jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning in the first game of the doubleheader and cruised to a 6-1 win.
According to Elias, this was the first time the Yankees scored at least four first-inning runs in consecutive games since July 23-24, 1988, against the Royals. The last time they did that against the Red Sox was in a doubleheader in 1940.
The Yankees lost the second game of the doubleheader 9-5, but the result was hardly surprising. The Yankees and Red Sox have now split their last four doubleheaders, with the Yankees winning Game 1 and the Red Sox winning Game 2 each time.
The Yankees were sloppy, committing four errors in a nine-inning game against the Red Sox for the first time since 1972.
It was the second time this season the Yankees allowed at least nine runs and 17 hits against the Red Sox; 1939 was the only other season in the last 90 years when the Yankees had two such games.
RIDICULOUS YANKEEMETRIC OF SERIES
Hiroki Kuroda on Friday became the third Yankees starter with at least two wild pitches and seven or more runs allowed at Fenway Park in the live ball era. The others were Bullet Joe Bush (1922) and Cliff Markle (1924).
