Joe Girardi has set his second half rotation. Next weekend against the Angels, it will be Hiroki Kuroda, Freddy Garcia and Ivan Nova. They will be followed by Phil Hughes, CC Sabathia and Kuroda against the Blue Jays. Girardi said he set things up that way because of some matchups he liked. He didn't say what they were.
Speaking of Sabathia, he had a successful bullpen session on Sunday and reported no pain in his groin. He will throw another bullpen Tuesday before a simulated game on Friday, and then he expects to be good to go a week from Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Sabathia, an All-Star, will still be going to Kansas City because his eight-year-old son, CC, wants to attend. If he were not being a good dad, CC would travel with his wife, Amber, to the Bahamas.
• Russell Martin isn't in the lineup Sunday night because Girardi wanted him to start his All-Star break early. Martin broke an 0-for-30 slump on Saturday with a double, but later tore apart three towels because he was so frustrated. Martin is hitting .179, and is a free agent after this season.
• Some injury updates from the manager:
Brett Gardner (elbow) did 25 tee-and-tosses on Sunday. He has some hurdles to clear before he goes on another minor league rehab assignment, so it seems highly unlikely he will be ready for the first series after the break.
Joba Chamberlain (elbow, ankle) threw a bullpen and could start his minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday, meaning he may be in the major leagues in the next 30 days or so.
David Aardsma (elbow) is going to see an elbow specialist on Monday to figure out what the next step is in his rehab.

Mo is now 17 for 17 in save opportunities. His best save start was 2008 when he was 28-for-28.

Lots of people want to Blame the Binder for leaving CC in. Fair point. I didn't first guess, but a fair point for those who did.
