The Yankee faithful are getting restless regarding Alex Rodriguez.
The crowd in the Bronx let Rodriguez hear it on Friday night after he grounded out with Curtis Granderson on third base in the sixth.
Joe Girardi was asked Saturday if he thought the booing had any effect on Rodriguez, who entered the day hitting .265 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs.
"Probably not a lot. He's been through it before and Alex understands," Girardi said. "They just want him to be productive and get a basehit every time and to put up big numbers and that's what he wants.
"I think a lot of the times players are more critical of themselves than others, so I think they expect it sometimes."
Girardi said there are no plans to move Rodriguez down in the lineup.
JOE OK WITH GRANDY Ks: Curtis Granderson has 23 homers and 48 RBIs -- solid numbers, for sure -- but he has struck out an alarming 101 times thus far this season.
That is by far the highest total among the Yankees (Rodriguez is second, with 78).
Girardi says Granderson's high strikeout total isn't of great concern.
"He's always been a strikeout guy. I look at his production and his production's been pretty good," the manager said.
CC THROWS: CC Sabathia felt fine after throwing on Saturday morning. He will toss a bullpen on Sunday and anticipates returning to the mound on Tuesday, as expected. Sabathia has missed two starts due to a groin injury.
JOBA HAS TWO Ks: Joba Chamberlain struck out two in two innings in his second rehab outing on Saturday morning. Girardi did not have any update on his progress before the game, because he hadn't had a chance to talk to anyone in the organization about Chamberlain's outing. We should have an update after the game.
