This is Sabathia's first start since June 24 against the Mets, when he allowed nine hits and five runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings. He went on the DL the next day with a left groin strain. Joe Girardi said there are no restrictions on CC tonight despite the 24 days of inactivity and the 95-degree heat ... OF Darnell McDonald, who appeared in four games with the Yankees and was hitless in four at-bats, was designated for assignment to make room for Sabathia on the roster ... Girardi keeps saying he is looking for a spot to reunite Sabathia with starting catcher Russell Martin , but tonight evidently is not that spot; Chris Stewart will catch CC for the 14th consecutive start ... the Blue Jays placed Jose Bautista on the DL with what they are calling left wrist inflammation, an injury suffered on a swing against David Robertson in the eighth inning of Monday night's 6-3 Yankees victory.
