Notes: Joba Chamberlain gave up two runs, one earned, in two innings of a rehab appearance for Single-A Tampa. It was his fourth outing. Manager Joe Girardi had no report on how Chamberlian looked or how he felt … Jayson Nix was in the lineup at second to give Robinson Cano a rest at designated hitter. Nix has started at four positions in the field this year. “He’s played really well for us,” Girardi said. “The job he’s done moving around has been good. He’s been very valuable.” The A’s, who are facing the Yankees this weekend, bear little resemblance to the team the Yankees swept in May, Girardi said. “They pitch very well, they have speed, they have power,” Girardi said. “They hit the ball out of the ballpark. They have three or four guys who weren’t here the last time we played them. They’ve played very well.” The two biggest offensive additions have been Yoenis Cespedes, who was hurt when they played last time, and Brandon Moss, who was in the minors. They have combined for 23 homers. Brandon Inge was hurt during the May series.
