Exec: Orioles could decide wild card

The Orioles are building in Baltimore. An MLB exec told me he thinks they very well could decide the wild card. Of course, the O's aren't going to win it.

It would be surprising if the O's finished better than fourth in the AL East, but they play 54 games between the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays and that could be the deciding factor in which of those three is on the outside looking in come October.

"I'm on Baltimore," the MLB Exec said. "They have three players that could be breakout players in 2010. Catcher Matt Wieters, starter Brian Matusz and outfielder Nolan Reimold could all be breakout players."

Then you still have Adam Jones and Nick Markakis in the outfield. They added Kevin Millwood and Mike Gonzalez. The O's bid very high for Mark Teixeira so presumably they can spend big, if they want to.

They are probably not really contenders until 2011, but they are coming and they could be the difference in the AL East.

Then again, the Blue Jays are going to have the worst record in baseball.
