The July 31 non-waiver trade deadline has come and gone.

But baseball’s real deadline for setting postseason rosters is Aug. 31.

As it stands right now, here is the Yankees’ projected playoff roster, assuming “perfect” health -- and, of course, that they make it:

C: Russell Martin/Chris Stewart
1B: Mark Teixeira/Casey McGehee
2B: Robinson Cano/Jayson Nix
SS: Derek Jeter/Jayson Nix
3B: Alex Rodriguez/Eric Chavez
LF: Ichiro Suzuki/Raul Ibanez/Andruw Jones
CF: Curtis Granderson/Ichiro Suzuki
RF: Nick Swisher/Raul Ibanez/Andruw Jones
DH: Raul Ibanez/Andruw Jones

BENCH: Chris Stewart/Casey McGehee/Eric Chavez/Raul Ibanez/Andruw Jones

STARTING ROTATION: CC Sabathia/Hiroki Kuroda/Andy Pettitte/Ivan Nova/Phil Hughes

BULLPEN: Freddy Garcia/David Phelps/Cody Eppley/Boone Logan/Joba Chamberlain/David Robertson/Rafael Soriano

ANALYSIS: Assuming the Yankees carry 12 pitchers and a four-man bench, not much to nitpick about here. The biggest question in my opinion -- aside from Pettitte or Kuroda for Game 2 -- is who stays as the fourth starter and who goes to the bullpen: Hughes or Nova?

Since Hughes has had success in relief, it certainly makes sense to send him down there. At the same time, Nova struggled in his only career postseason start, lasting just two innings in Game 5 of the 2011 ALDS.

As you can see, GM Brian Cashman opted not to make a big splash. Instead, he found quality depth pieces like Ichiro and McGehee without having to surrender any premium prospects, setting his team up to win now and in the future.

QUESTIONS: What did you think of Cashman’s lack of activity at the trade deadline? Do you think the Yankees’ roster is capable of competing for a championship? What tweaking if any would you do before the playoffs?

UP NOW: Wallace Matthews has a column, and the news on the McGehee trade. Andrew Marchand and Wally tag-teamed the latest edition of Bombers Beat. I provided updates on Mark Teixeira and Joba Chamberlain. Marchand and I also have some items on the blog.

ON DECK: Yankees vs. Orioles, Wednesday afternoon, Phil Hughes vs. Zach Britton, first pitch, around 1:05 p.m. Wally and Ian Begley have you covered.
