A recurring feature of the blog, "Buzz" will follow Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances, as well as other top Yankee prospects, all season long.
Here is the news story on Manny Banuelos being done for the year. There was more news and notes from my conversation with VP Mark Newman. So let's get to it.
* David Aardsma is not expected to comeback this season, Newman told me. Aardsma, trying to return from from Tommy John surgery, was aiming for August, but that isn't going to happen.
"He is not close to returning," Newman said.
Aardsma is working out in Tampa, and the goal is for him to be part of the bullpen next season. He is the former Mariners' closer.
* Jose Campos, the other pitcher in the Michael Pineda trade, is in a throwing program down in Tampa. His injury, according to Newman, is similar to Banuelos' as it's a bone bruise. Campos has been out since May. He has appeared in five games and had been really impressive. His 4.01 ERA at Single-A was bloated due to one outing. He just turned 20 and it seems like he won't be back this season, but that is not official yet.
Before Campos got hurt, he was already being hailed as the steal of the Pineda deal. Se we will have to see.
* On the positive side, Newman raved about Tyler Austin and Zoilo Almonte. With Austin and Almonte joining top outfield prospect Mason Williams (also out for the year because of a shoulder injury), the Yankees feel very good about their lower-to-mid-level outfield prospects. Austin is hitting .320 with 15 homers and 63 RBIs at Single-A. His OPS is .986. Almonte is hitting .273 with 16 homers and 55 RBIs at Double-A.
* Two pitchers to watch: Brett Marshall at Double-A, who Newman said throws between 90-94. On the year, he is 12-4 with a 2.77 ERA as a starter in Double-A. Mark Montgomery is a Double-A closer, who Newman called a "David Robertson-type." Not bad. He has a 1.43 ERA and 15 saves in A and AA.

That's "Kuroda" of course. Autocorrect changed it to Kurosawa, who is a famous Japanese director
