On Sunday night, Nick Swisher's wife, JoAnna Garcia, had her new sitcom, "Animal Practice," air in the prime spot after the NBC's presentation of the Olympics' closing ceremonies. On Monday, Swisher hit home run No. 200, a grand slam, and enjoyed it immensely, smiling and styling around the bases. For good measure, he added an RBI single for a five-RBI night.
"It's been a great two days," Swisher said.
It was Swisher's sixth career grand slam and second of the season. His other came in April off Mark Teixeira's buddy, Vicente Padilla in April.
• Eric Chavez is pushing for more playing time regardless of when Alex Rodriguez returns. Chavez had his career-best fifth straight multihit game, which on Monday included a solo homer. In his past 10 games, he is hitting .471 with five homers, two doubles and 10 RBIs.
"It is hard to argue with what he has done," Joe Girardi said when asked if Chavez has earned more playing time.
If Chavez keeps it up when A-Rod returns, Girardi will have to stay with him. Girardi will mix Chavez in at DH and third, while giving Rodriguez some half-days at DH. Playing time for Raul Ibanez and Ichiro Suzuki will most likely be impacted if Chavez stays hot and healthy.
• Was this a playoff preview? Well, if the Yankees have home field versus Texas, they may like their chances. Yes, they lost in the 2010 postseason to the Rangers, but since '10, the Yankees have won nine of 10 against Texas in the Bronx.
