WHAT IT MEANS: The Yankees continue to dominate the Red Sox, taking two of three, and Father Time hasn't caught up the Yankees, who are sort of MLB's answer to "The Expendables." On Sunday, it was two 38-year-olds, Ichiro Suzuki and Derek Jeter, and 37-year-old Hiroki Kuroda leading the way.
ICHIRO CURTAIN CALL: Ichiro went yard in the fourth and the sixth. His solo shots were his sixth and seventh of the season. Ichiro has been hot of late with 14 hits in his past 30 at-bats. He entered the game with a .301 average as a Yankee in 25 games.
After the second long ball, the crowd demanded a curtain call and Ichiro obliged, coming out of the dugout and doing a little pirouette as he waved his helmet to the crowd.
Ichiro's fine hitting is significant because when Alex Rodriguez comes back, someone is losing playing time and it probably won't be the hot-hitting Eric Chavez. While A-Rod will play regularly at third and DH, Chavez will be in the lineup a lot, so Ichiro will fight for time with DH/LF Raul Ibanez and Chavez.
CAPTAIN DOING WORK: Jeter, MLB's leader in hits, greeted another Josh Beckett 92 mph meatball with a double over Jacoby Ellsbury to lead off the bottom of the first. Jeter would come around to score. In the third, Jeter nailed another double off Beckett and scored again.
KURODA ROCKS AGAIN: Kuroda has been amazing for a while now. Clearly, the Yankees' best starting pitcher this season, Kuroda has gone at least seven innings in 12 of his past 16 starts. That's basically 2½ months of deep starts. He is only 12-8, but that is because of poor run support at times.
Kuroda dominated the Red Sox. Adrian Gonzalez sent a text message over the right-field wall. Besides that, the Sawx could do nothing against Kuroda in his eight innings.
BOLD BINDER COMES UP BIG: Joe Girardi has often said that he doesn't want to bat Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson back-to-back because he wants to split up his lefties. But for the first time in Granderson's Yankees career and for only the second time in his entire career, Granderson batted cleanup. It paid off in the first when Granderson knocked Jeter home with a double.
COMING ATTRACTIONS: Ian O'Connor on Alex Rodriguez and Bobby Valentine. Ian Begley on Ichiro Suzuki, Derek Jeter and Hiroki Kuroda. We will have results of Andy Pettitte's and Alex Rodriguez's X-rays. Plus, Gordon Edes and I will be doing some wrap-up video.
QUESTION OF THE NIGHT: Would you even consider starting Kuroda in Game 1 of the playoffs over CC Sabathia?

Classic A-Rod would get an inordinate amount of blame because of failure at end of games when he was big reason the moment was possible.

Very A-Rodish game by Carmelo: He was great enough to put himself in position to fail in the fourth.
