Mike DiNovo/US PresswireJoe Girardi doesn't like what he's seeing from struggling starter Ivan Nova. You can read the details of our, er, discussion here, but suffice it to say, Girardi is frustrated with Nova, whose laid-back personality, once viewed as a sign of his unflappability, may now be being perceived as nonchalance, or worse.
His record over the past five weeks has been horrendous, his body language questionable, his pitches frighteningly hittable.
Which brings us to the Question of the Day: Is it time to swap Nova for David Phelps in the rotation?
Phelps has an admittedly small sample size as a starter, just five starts comprising all of 24 2/3 innings, but his ERA in those starts is 2.91 and his strikeouts-to-walks ratio is an impressive 26-8. Would you be in favor of removing Nova, who at one point won 15 consecutive decisions, and replacing him with Phelps, a comparative novice who shows lots of promise? Let us know below.
Up now: My column on Nova, and why he is driving Joe Girardi bananas.
Coming soon: I'll be live-chatting at noon. Link to come this morning. Also: a W2W4 by the redoubtable Mark Simon, followed by the clubhouse opening at 4:35 New York time in advance of tonight's series finale, in which Phil Hughes (12-10, 4.23) will be asked to stave off a sweep by the White Sox, facing LHP Chris Sale, who is having an outstanding season (14-4, 2.72). First pitch is at 8:05 p.m.
Check in often and, as always, thanks for reading.

Classic A-Rod would get an inordinate amount of blame because of failure at end of games when he was big reason the moment was possible.

Very A-Rodish game by Carmelo: He was great enough to put himself in position to fail in the fourth.
