Dellin Betances' poor season is over, as he was technically promoted to the majors and then immediately put on the 60-day DL. The Yankees did this to make room for Andy Pettitte, who was taken off the DL to make his Wednesday start.

This year, Betances finished 6-9 with a 6.44 ERA in 27 starts between Double-A and Triple-A. Formerly a top prospect, the 24-year-old is now a reclamation project.

The Yankees are trying to figure out when they will activate Brett Gardner, who has played just nine games all season. Gardner is starting a hitting program, but will only pinch-run and play the outfield, if activated. Gardner said that he and the team have been assured by doctors that he is not risking re-injuring his right elbow. It sounds as if he will be on the roster by the end of the week. Joe Girardi ruled out today as an option.
