Let's get you eight notes from the postgame before bed:
1. When Francisco Cervelli scored the winning run in the 12th, he did it in classic Cervelli style. There was no play at the plate, but he avoided the catcher like he was on a Slip 'N Slide and he sort of pounded the plate with his right hand. What was that?
"To tell you the truth, I don't know," Cervelli said with his trademark smile.
Cervelli had pure joy on his face when he was mobbed by his teammates.
"It makes my season," Cervelli said.
Cervelli started the rally by working a two-out walk against Andrew Miller. It was his first major league at-bat of the year.
2. Raul Ibanez, the undisputed hero from Tuesday, described his game-tying two-run, ninth inning homer and his game-winning single in the 12th this way:
"It is kind of a whirlwind," Ibanez said.
Ibanez had a bucket of ice thrown on his back by Nick Swisher during his postgame TV interview.
"My back was numb for awhile," Ibanez said, not seeming to mind.
3. Mark Teixeira left six runners on base and failed to come through with the bases loaded in the ninth. He felt very relieved after his 0-for-6 day.
"I guarantee I'm the happiest guy on the team," Teixeira said. "It could not have gone worse for me personally. I told Raul, 'Thank you,' about 100 times."
4. Joe Girardi decided to bat the hottest hitter in baseball, Robinson Cano, fifth and Teixeira fourth. It didn't work out at all, as detailed in the Rapid Reaction. Why did Girardi do it?
"Texy has been one of our better hitters against left-handers all year," Girardi said. "We brought him back a couple of weeks ago and he had a big hit off a left-hander. It didn't work tonight, but I still believe in Texy and his at-bats against left-handers."
5. Cano had his eighth straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-6. He has 20 hits in his past 35 at-bats (.571).
6. Rafael Soriano threw 43 pitches in his two innings of relief. It was the first time Soriano has thrown more than one inning since June of 2010. He may be unavailable on Wednesday.
"Hopefully, he feels OK, if I need him," Girardi said. "I've said it all along and I will say it again -- we are trying to win the division. He hasn't worked a lot lately. He was ask our guys, 'Are you OK? Are you sure you are OK?' He said he was OK."
7. Derek Lowe continues to make himself a good bet for the postseason roster. He threw the final two innings and picked up the win.
"He can get a lot of ground balls," Girardi said. "When you get in those in those tight games, those ground balls are important."
8. The Yankees control their own destiny. If they win on Wednesday, they will be the AL East champs and No. 1 seed. They would face the winner of Friday's wild card game. The Yankees would start on the road on Sunday.
