That stands for anyone but CC. As in Sabathia. Joe Girardi said just about anyone on his pitching staff is available for use tonight if needed, with the exception of his ace, who will not pitch in this game so he will be ready go in Game 1 of the ALDS either Saturday or Sunday.
Of course, Andy Pettitte is probably not available either, since he is slated to pitch tomorrow if the Yankees wind up in a tie atop the division with Baltimore Orioles; if so, the two would play a tiebreaker at Camden Yards on Thursday night at 7:10 p.m. And we still don't know if Rafael Soriano, who threw 43 pitches Tuesday night, will be available if a closer is needed.
And, you may be wondering, what happens if the Yankees lose tonight and tomorrow and have to play the one-game wild-card play-in game on Friday? Who would start that one? Probably CC on three days' rest. Which would mean Phil Hughes would start Game 1 of the ALDS, Kuroda Game 2, Pettitte Game 3 and Sabathia not until Game 4. But that is a worst-case scenario no one wants to consider right now.
