Power outages affected the New York Yankees both during and after their Game 2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

First, the Yanks couldn't get a big hit against Baltimore in a 3-2 loss in the second game of the best-of-five Division Series Monday.

Then after the game, the Yankees' trip home was severely delayed by a power outage on the train.

Manager Joe Girardi said the team didn't get back to New York until 6 a.m. on Tuesday because of the travel issues.

"I thought our guys made the best of it; they laughed, and there were some pictures taken. It's just something you have to deal with, similar to getting in from the West Coast some days," Girardi said on a conference call with reporters.

It is unclear just how the late arrival will affect the veteran Yankees heading into Game 3. Yankees righty Hiroki Kuroda (16-11, 3.32 ERA) will face off against Miguel Gonzalez (9-4, 3.25 ERA) on Wednesday night with the series tied at 1-1.

After their Game 2 loss, the Yankees arrived at the train station in Baltimore around 1 a.m.

Girardi said that the train did not leave until 2 a.m. due to an electrical issue at the station.

"The thought was once we got away from the station, the train was fine," the manager said.

But that wasn't the case.

According to Girardi, the train was delayed a half-hour later by another electrical issue.

"The train was slowing down," Girardi said. "It just seemed like we were coasting, and we kind of coasted into Aberdeen, I guess."

Aberdeen just happens to be the short season Single-A affiliate of the Orioles, the Aberdeen IronBirds, owned by favorite son Cal Ripken. The Yankees pulled into the small Maryland town around 3:15 a.m.

From there, the Bombers boarded a bus to complete the trip home to New York.

"We got to New York City about 6 in the morning," Girardi said.

Baltimore also ran into travel issues on the trains en route to New York. Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters that his team got into their New York hotel around 9 a.m. after getting delayed on the train.

"We made it, and everybody did the best they could do," Showalter said, adding that the late arrival would not be used as an excuse by his team.

The Yankees' original off-day schedule stated that Girardi and Kuroda would appear at Yankee Stadium for a news conference with reporters. The Baltimore Orioles were scheduled to work out. Those plans were scrapped because of the travel delays.

"I think our guys made the best of it and kind of laughed at it," Girardi said of the extended trip home.

"It's been tough," the manager added. "You know, you'd think that a city this close in proximity would be easy to get between, but not today."
