Happy birthday, Joe -- you're ejected!

Yankees manager Joe Girardi turned 48 on Sunday.

His birthday present from second base umpire Jeff Nelson?

How 'bout an ejection?

Girardi was run from the game after arguing a botched call by Nelson for a second time in the top of the eighth inning in Game 2 of the ALCS.

With Detroit ahead 1-0, two outs in the frame and Omar Infante on first base, Austin Jackson poked a single into right field. Nick Swisher came up firing and threw behind Infante, who took a big turn around second.

Robinson Cano applied the tag and replays showed that Infante was out, but Nelson didn’t see it that way. Girardi came out to argue the call to no avail.

The Tigers then took a 2-0 lead on pinch-hitter’s Avisail Garcia’s single, which prompted Girardi to come out of the dugout again.

He was ejected by Nelson, which prompted cheers from the clearly frustrated Yankee Stadium crowd. Girardi handed his lineup card to bench coach Tony Pena before heading into the dugout.

Starting on three days rest, Hiroki Kuroda was sensational (7.2 IP, 3 R, 11 K), but it looks like he’s going to be a tough-luck loser because the Yankees’ offense has been dormant.
