TAMPA, Fla. -- Ichiro Suzuki heard about the New York Post photo of Derek Jeter. "Derek Eater," the paper pronounced this offseason. A less-than-flattering picture of Jeter appeared on the cover, making him looks as if he were fat.

"Jeter was not the eater the media portrayed him to be," Ichiro said. "That was good to see."

Ichiro returns to the Yankees as an important player. He is the only man the Yankees signed to a multiyear contract, as they were mostly unwilling to eat into next season's $189 million mandate.

Ichiro will make $13 million over two years. He will be asked to replace Nick Swisher in right.
