TAMPA, Fla. -- Mariano Rivera confirmed that he will be holding a press conference on Saturday, but he wouldn't say what he will talk about. He will also take the mound for the first time since he tore his ACL last May.
Still, the 43-year-old Rivera, known for his coolness under pressure, said he won’t have any jitters.
“Not about any part,” Rivera said. “Any part.”
Rivera wanted to save all his best quotes for Saturday when he is expected to announce his retirement after the 2013 season.
“I told you guys I would talk one day and tomorrow’s the day,” Rivera said.
As for his recovery from his knee surgery, Rivera said he is right where he wants to be.
When told Derek Jeter joked that maybe Rivera is announcing a contract extension, Rivera had his fun.
“You never know,” Rivera said. “A lot of things happen. A lot of things happen.”
Jeter pointed out that the Yankees have a policy in which they usually don’t negotiate with soon-to-be free agents.
“Maybe there are exceptions,” Rivera said.
