Jeter survives BP

TAMPA, Fla. -- Derek Jeter came thorugh his drills unscathed Friday morning, participating in five rounds of batting practice and a half-hour of infield practice, laughing, chattering and busting chops on his teammates all the while.

Jeter seemed to move well on the field and comically grunted on every throw like some baseball version of Monica Seles. Afterward, he spoke to the media for about six minutes, which can be boiled down to two words: "I'm fine."

No word yet on what the next step is, but as he always does, Jeter said he could play today, "If I had to."
