TAMPA, Fla. -- As first reported by Newsday, Derek Jeter is "too sore'' to play today, one day after grounding out four times in a AAA game on Saturday and essentially jogging to first base each time. At this point, it seems a certainty that Jeter will have to begin the season on the DL, and it may be unrealistic to think he will be playing in the first week of the regular season, as the Yankees had hoped.

More details to come after GM Brian Cashman speaks to us at about 11 a.m.
