TAMPA, Fla. -- The days just keep getting sleepier and sleepier around here as the Yankees prepare to break camp.

A couple of new guys showed up today, an outfielder named Wells and a first baseman named Overbay, and for some reason both Ben Francisco and Juan Rivera suddenly look a bit glum. Plus, Francisco Cervelli keeps glancing at the clubhouse door as if he expects someone to walk through it at the very last moment and ruin his spring for the second straight year.

But there are some other things going on aside from a last-minute influx of new faces:

ACE IN THE HOLE: CC Sabathia's last shot to make the team -- er, I mean his final tuneup before his Opening Day start against the Red Sox on Monday in the Bronx -- comes tonight against the Houston Astros. And aside from simulated games, it's actually only his second start of the spring; in his first, he allowed two runs in five innings, although he did get up to 90 pitches in a minor league game. He'll probably be scaled back to 75-80 tonight.

LET'S HAVE SOME MO: Mariano Rivera will make his sixth appearance of the spring, and he has yet to allow a run in five innings pitched. Unless Sabathia leaves in the middle of an inning, Mo will be the first reliever in the game, followed by David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan.

WELLS, WELLS, WELLS: The Yankees' new toy, Vernon Wells, is jumping right into the fray, batting sixth and starting in left field tonight. And get a good look at Juan Rivera, while you're at it; with the signing today of Lyle Overbay, Rivera's days as a placeholder at first base until Mark Teixeira gets back may be just about over.
