Notes: Jeter, Rapada & empty seats

Here are some afternoon notes from a frigid Yankee Stadium. It makes you wonder how empty the seats will be for Yankees-Red Sox.

JETER EXPECTATIONS: I asked Joe Girardi about his expectations for Derek Jeter.

"Our expectations are he is going to be an every day player for us," Girardi said. "The issue is when is what we are concerned about, how long it takes him to get through what he needs to get through to be that player."

The Yankees have no timetable when Jeter will return, but it will not be soon. Jeter only threw long toss and did strengthening exercises on his ankle Wednesday in Tampa.

RAPADA OFFICIALLY GONE: The Yankees gave lefty specialist Clay Rapada his unconditional release. The Yankees liked Rapada, but they ran out of room on the 40-man roster when they wanted to add Lyle Overbay before Opening Day. Rapada's spring training was cut short by shoulder bursitis.

YANKS-SAWX: With the freezing weather and the lack of excitement about the Yankees and the Red Sox, I'm not sure the Yankees will even have 25,000 fans here. What do you think?
