ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A bad week for Kevin Youkilis just got worse.

Not only has the Yankees third baseman been out of action since Saturday with persistent pain in his lower back, Youkilis today lost points off his batting average without taking a swing.

Major League Baseball today changed the scoring on Youkilis' two-run single in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto. It will be recalled that Youkilis lined the ball past Jays 3B Brett Lawrie, who seemed to lose the ball either in the lights or the sea of white shirts in the stands behind home plate. Upon review, MLB changed the scoring from a hit to a dropped line drive error on Lawrie. In the process, Youkilis' batting average dropped to .279.

Ouch.
