Joe Girardi thought Kevin Youkilis would be available for Thursday night's game against the Blue Jays, but the infielder will not play.

"He tried to take some work in the cage, and he’s just not ready," the Yankees' manager said.

Youkilis, who's hitting .279 with two homers and seven RBIs on the season, will miss his fifth game in a row with lower back tightness.

"It’s just stiff. He’s not rotating the way he wants to rotate, which is kind of important for a hitter," Girardi said. "He’s just not ready to go."

Girardi said he's not aware of any plans for further medical tests, and is not considering placing Youkilis on the disabled list at this time. But his return date remains up in the air.
