Pregame notes: Jeter back at it

5/31/2013

Derek Jeter played catch with video coordinator Anthony Flynn on the field before Friday’s game for a third straight day.

Jeter said Wednesday he’d be examined in the next week and a half by doctors to determine whether he can increase the intensity of his workouts.

The Yankees shortstop doesn’t have a timetable set for his return.

• The Yankees have gone three games (106 batters) without a walk.

“It’s unusual for our club,” manager Joe Girardi said Friday. “I don’t think we’re a club that walks as much as some of the other clubs that have been here. I think the Mets threw a lot of strikes against us, so hopefully that changes tonight and we get back to doing some of those things.”

• Girardi discussed his decision to go with Kevin Youkilis as his DH.

“[He] played a few days in a row,” the manager said. “He’s probably more accustomed to doing it than a guy like David Adams, so I figured we do it that way.”

• Friday’s starter CC Sabathia (4-4) is winless over his last five starts since May 3, tying for the second-longest such stretch of his career. Sabathia is 8-10 with a 4.33 ERA in 23 career starts against the Red Sox.

• The Yankees will make up their May 19 rainout against Blue Jays on Aug. 20 as a day-night doubleheader.
