NEW YORK -- Ivan Nova appears to be on his way up to the majors after being scratched from his Triple-A start on Friday. A source said that Nova had no injury.

The Yankees have yet to announce a starter for Sunday's game against the Rays, but Nova makes perfect sense to get the call.

Nova was 1-2 with a 5.16 ERA with the Yankees this season. At Triple-A, he was 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA.

Joe Girardi was asked about Nova during the pregame, the manager said that Nova, who was on the DL with a right triceps injury, was stretched out again, meaning he was ready to start again. Girardi, perhaps being coy, said that Nova was pitching well, but has had some brief hiccups in games.

The Yankees need a starter for Sunday because the rainout against the Dodgers pushed Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes to Wednesday.
