NEW YORK -- Joe Girardi said Ivan Nova will likely get another start for the Yankees, but he doesn't know when.

"I'm not taking anyone out of the rotation," Girardi said.

The Yankees have 20 games in 20 days, so it sounds as if Girardi will, at some point, go with a six-man staff one time through the rotation. Girardi seems hesitant to use Nova out of the bullpen unless there is an emergency.

"There is no exact plan," Giardi said.

By not making a move for a position player, the Yankees' bench on Tuesday was Vernon Wells, Austin Romine and Alberto Gonzalez.

Girardi said the Yankees did not consider making a move prior to Tuesday. With Nova sticking around, it is probably imperative for Phil Hughes to pitch better on Thursday, even if the Yankees prefer to keep him in the regular five-man rotation.

GIRARDI CONCERNED ABOUT TEX: With no progress on his injured right wrist, Mark Teixeira is going to see doctors on Tuesday. It could finally be recommended to Teixeira to have season-ending surgery.

"I'm concerned," Girardi said. "I've said before, it is tricky. What he had is a tricky injury and I'm concerned."

BACK BEFORE BREAK? UH, NO: Girardi said there is no word on when Alex Rodriguez will play in minor league rehab games.

"As soon as there is, we will let you know," Girardi said.

Girardi reiterated that Rodriguez is making progress.

Girardi also said from Derek Jeter to Curtis Granderson to Eduardo Nunez to to all their injured players, the Yankees will not have any of them return prior to the All-Star break.

"You wouldn't think so," Giardi said.

Girardi didn't seem to be including Michael Pineda in this group. Pineda was scheduled for a rehab start in Trenton on Tuesday. He will make two more after that Tuesday, so it is conceivable that Pineda could rejoin the Yankees before July 15 break.
