Pregame notes: Pineda, Nunez, Nova

NEW YORK -- Manager Joe Girardi watched some tape of Michael Pineda's rehab start for Double-A Trenton on Tuesday, and liked what he saw.

"I could see the movement on his fastball," Girardi said. "His slider looked pretty good, his changeup looked pretty good."

Pineda threw six shutout innings against the Erie Seawolves, giving up two hits, with four strikeouts. It was his fourth rehab start, after making two appearances for Single-A Tampa, plus an intersquad game.

General manager Brian Cashman said Pineda will make another start for Trenton this coming weekend, in Binghamton against the B-Mets.

• Cashman also revealed that shortstop Eduardo Nunez will make a start for Tampa on Wednesday night, his first rehab game on his road back to the big leagues.

Nunez has been out since May 5 with an oblique injury.

• Sounds like Girardi is still planning to give Ivan Nova another start in the near future, but he's not sure when.

"Not exactly," said Girardi, when asked if he had a day in mind. "Just see how this week goes, and we’ll go from there."
