Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the Yankees will wait until Friday in Boston to decide if Derek Jeter will return to the lineup or go on the disabled list.
Jeter has spent All-Star week treating his Grade 1 right quad strain. After missing the first 91 games because of his twice fractured ankle, Jeter returned on July 11, going 1-for-4, but irritated the quad. The Yankees kept him out of last weekend's series against the Minnesota Twins.
If Jeter can't play against the Red Sox, then Eduardo Nunez would be at short. With the lefty Felix Doubront on the mound for the Red Sox, the Yankees could use Jeter as the team's DH. Jeter hit .364 against lefties in 2012.
If Jeter were to go on the disabled list, he would be eligible to return on July 27.
