The New York Yankees on Friday returned captain Derek Jeter to the disabled list due to a strained right quadriceps.
Jeter will be eligible to return from his latest DL stint on July 27. The Yankees will call up Brent Lillibridge to take his roster spot.
Jeter was injured in his return to the lineup on July 11 against the Kansas City Royals after missing the first 91 games of the season because of his twice-fractured left ankle. He went 1-for-4 but suffered a Grade 1 strain of the quad while running out a grounder.
After his latest injury, Jeter underwent an MRI. He sat out three games, then received treatment through the All-Star break before the team decided to make the DL move Friday.
Eduardo Nunez will continue as the Yankees' main replacement at short.
