TAMPA, Fla. -- The New York Yankees will honor Mariano Rivera with a ceremony at Yankee Stadium before their afternoon game against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The Yankees announced the ceremony in a Wednesday news release. Further details will be announced at a later date.

Rivera, 43, will retire after this season. He is baseball's all-time saves leader and a five-time World Series champion.

After the Giants series, the Yankees play three home games against the Tampa Bay Rays before going to Houston for their final three games of the regular season.

If the Yankees are out of the playoff race by the time they reach Houston, will Joe Girardi let Rivera fulfill his dream of playing the outfield in a major league game?
