HOUSTON -- Joe Girardi said he expects the final outing of Mariano Rivera's career will end up being Thursday night's emotional appearance at Yankee Stadium when Rivera broke down in tears after being removed by Core Four teammates Andy Pettitte and Derek Jeter in the ninth inning.

While Girardi said he will give Rivera a chance to change his mind on Sunday, the manager believes Rivera will choose not to take the mound again or play the outfield.

"I think that is a big part of it," Girardi said about Thursday's moment impacting Mo's decision to sit out at Minute Maid Field. "That was a special night for him the way it unfolded. He wants it to end that way."

Rivera is expected to speak with reporters shortly.
