LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Veterans Committee has elected Joe Torre to the Hall of Fame, but not George Steinbrenner.

"It hits you like a sledgehammer," Torre said. "I can't tell you how excited I am."

Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa were also elected. All three were unanimous selections.

Steinbrenner received less than six votes, a nominee needed 12 of 16 to qualify.

The press conference is going on right now. We will have more on the story soon.

Feel free to discuss in the comments in the meantime.
