Raining on TanakaPalooza

3/6/2014

TAMPA, Fla. -- It is pouring in the Tampa area, so the Yankees' game against the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater is very much in question.

The Yankees pushed back their bus time from 9:55 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. to try to get a better read on the situation. Clearwater is a little less than a half-hour away. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. It seems unlikely they will play.

So what does that mean for Masahiro Tanaka, who was supposed to make his first start? Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said he is unsure if Tanaka would throw a simulated game in the indoor batting cage or if they would push him back to Friday night at Steinbrenner Field.

CC Sabathia was also scheduled to have a simulated game today in Tampa, so that figures to go on inside.

Mark Teixeira, who was scheduled to make his debut, could take some more swings in these games. Finding Teixeira some cuts has been a problem lately.

If they do play, here is Joe Girardi's original lineup (subject to change, of course):

Brett Gardner, LF

Derek Jeter, SS

Teixeira, 1B

Carlos Beltran, RF

Brian McCann, C

Alfonso Soriano, DH

Kelly Johnson, 3B

Brian Roberts, 2B

Mason Williams, CF

Tanaka, P
