TORONTO -- Derek Jeter tied Hall of Famer Paul Molitor for eighth-place on baseball's all-time hit list with a line single to right leading off the third inning of Sunday's New York Yankees-Toronto Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre.
It was the 3,319th hit of this, Jeter's final big league season and left him 100 hits behind the next player on the list, Carl Yastrzemski. It was also Jeter's third hit of the season, the first since Wednesday's game against the Astros in Houston, and raised his batting average from .167 to .231.
Jeter, who will turn 40 on June 26, has announced this will be final season in baseball after 20 years with the Yankees.
