Steinbrenner: We won't lay down & die

5/15/2014

NEW YORK -- Despite spending around half a billion dollars this offseason, Hal Steinbreinner says he will invest even more money if the Yankees need to make a trade.

"Always willing to look at options come July, come the trade deadline,” Steinbrenner, the Yankees’ managing general partner said at the quarterly owners' meetings in Manhattan. “And I think we’ve shown that. Some years we’ve done stuff like last year with [Alfonso] Soriano. Some years we haven’t. But we’re not going to ever lay down and die. We’re going to do what we need to do to stay in.”

At the moment, teams are not looking to unload top-flight pitching. Even when June and July come around, the Yankees -- because of their lack of top Triple-A prospects -- may not be in position to deal for a top-of-the-line starter. Still, Steinbrenner sounds willing to spend, if the Yanks can pull off a trade.
