Instead, the Yankees and Pirates will open the series Saturday at 4:05 p.m., as scheduled, and then play a single-admission doubleheader Sunday beginning at 1:05 p.m. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Only tickets dated Sunday, May 18, will be valid for the doubleheader. Those who had tickets for Friday's game may exchange them for any regular-season game at Yankee Stadium in the next 12 months, including Sunday's doubleheader (subject to availability).
David Phelps (0-0, 4.09) and Edinson Volquez (1-3, 4.36) were the scheduled starters for Friday's game. Phelps will now start Saturday, and Hiroki Kuroda and Vidal Nuno will start Sunday, with the order yet to be announced by the Yankees.
This will be the Yankees' first single-admission doubleheader at home since Sept. 29, 2004, against the Minnesota Twins (per Elias Sports Bureau).
It's the Pirates' first trip to the Bronx since 2007, and will be their first games at the new Yankee Stadium.
