ST. LOUIS -- Derek Jeter loves nothing more than buying a tub of popcorn and heading into a movie theater.

"I'm a movie person," Jeter told ESPNNewYork.com.

He was not exaggerating. He doesn't go once in a while; he goes a lot, especially in the offseason.

"I like going to a theater," Jeter said. "I get my popcorn. In the offseason, I go all the time. I see everything. I go three or four times a week if there are new ones out."

Jeter said he doesn't wear a disguise or a hat. He just finds a friend and heads to a matinee at the local Tampa theater.

"You go during the week in the afternoon—no one is there," Jeter said. "It is one of my favorite things to do."

So, without further ado, ESPN New York presents Derek Jeter's all-time favorite movies.

1. American History X

Jeter's Review: It shows you how people can change. Sometimes people are products of their environments, but they can change in due time. That was pretty good. Ed Norton was good in that one.

2. Major League

Jeter's Review: The first one is pretty good. I saw that movie so much when I was younger.

3. The Shawshank Redemption

Jeter's Review: I just thought it was an overall good movie. There are a lot of different sub-plots.

4. The Five Heartbeats

Jeter's Review: It is about an old, black, musical group trying to make it back in the day. If you like music, it is a good movie.

Some of the best of the rest: "There are so many," Jeter said."Scarface is good. The Shining is good. New Jack City, Friday."

Jeter has his own IMDB page because he has appeared in Anger Management and The Other Guys on the big screen.

"I didn't seek it out," said Jeter, who once hosted "Saturday Night Live." "I was asked to do a couple of the things that I did. It is not like I went and called all the Hollywood producers and tried to get in."

Did he like making the movies?

"It was alright," Jeter said. "I had a good time. They treated me good. It is different. It is a lot of waiting around, sitting, you have to do something over and over and over. When you think about it, my profession, you get one chance to do it. You don't just do things over and over, so it is a little bit different."

Could Jeter's post-playing career include being an actor?

"No plans," he said.

We don't know if he will be in a lot more movies, but we do know he will be in a lot more theaters.
